Cultivating minds through the power of knowledge.
Bayt Muhammad Academy is a centre of knowledge and light, a place for all to connect with Allah and His Messenger ﷺ. Operating for over ten years in the UK, we provide essential courses and services to the community at large.
Bayt Muhammad Academy has been serving the Ummah in the UK since 2010, providing essential services to all who seek to connect to Allah & His Messenger ﷺ. We are currently residing in a small rented property, which does not fully cater for our daily activities or demand, with numerous men, women and children on the waiting list deprived of the sacred light they yearn to seek. The academy strives to provide quality Islamic services to the wider Muslim community, for men and women of all ages and backgrounds including education, counselling, outreach programmes, welfare initiatives and more. In addition to the vast array of Islamic services, the academy is also one of the only institutes that caters for the specific needs of the Shaafi’i Kokni community, as well as being the only source of higher education and ‘Aalimiyyah studies for the Shaafi’i Madhab in the UK. The total Muslim community make up over 25% of the population of Blackburn, of whom over 1,500 are Shafi’I, and yet there is not a single Islamic school or Centre that can cater for this minorities needs.
The Academy (a very first of its kind in the UK) was established in May 2010, with a concern for the educational & moral needs of the Shaafi’i Kokni Muslim Community, and the wider community (particularly the youth). BMA has been pioneering education since 2010 to deliver a more effective, enjoyable and robust syllabus.
BMA is currently renting a small terraced house on Cherry Street, Blackburn as its sole base of operation. This centre provides an after-school institute to over 100 students, as well as many additional services. BMA has helped the lives of many in Blackburn and beyond by providing education, sports, activities that promote tolerance, respect and identity. BMA strives to improve the living standards of the inhabiting community through weekly litter picking, providing food to the needy, and contributing towards the greater welfare of the surrounding neighbourhood.
BMA also hosts spiritual retreats for children and their families to emphasise the importance of having a balanced physical, spiritual and communal well being, thus creating a well-rounded student that will be an exemplary role model citizen upholding the faith, morals and Prophetic teachings for Blackburn and beyond. The academy strives to collaborate with local schools and institutions to share curriculum, practices, and principles to push the boundaries further and raise the standards of the schooling experience. An integral part of the holistic spectrum of the academy indulges students and respective families to participate in charitable projects to provide assistance to those in need.
Bayt Muhammad Academy (BMA), is a limited (by guarantee) Company Incorporated in England and Wales (registration number 07499638) and an established UK Charity Organisation (registration number 1141603) which is fully registered with the UK charity Commission.
Bayt Muhammad Academy endeavors to preserve and empower the Shaafi’i community in the north-west and beyond. The academy caters for the spiritual needs of the community, developing dedicated educational resources, as well as events, courses and services.
As the overall population of the Muslim Ummah in the UK continues to flourish, so do the beautiful and bountiful communities within it. As a growing community of over 1,500, the Shaafi’i community has worked hard throughout the past few decades to set-up numerous Shaafi’i Masaajid across the country. However, there remained a compelling absence of a single institution dedicated to providing the vital services desperately required for the larger Shaafi’i community on a local and national scale.
Bayt Muhammad Academy was thus formed to address the dire need of an institution with a vision to thrive the advancement of the national Shaafi’i community, and by extension the entire Muslim Ummah. We believe that education is the means through which our communities can, and will become a beacon of light for all others.
We believe education is the key through which we can become a thriving, healthy ‘Muhammadan’ community.
Since our inception in 2010, we have served the higher educational needs of the Shaafi’i community, providing scholarship programmes, and Mufti courses to ensure the preservation and proliferation of the core values and practices of our esteemed Shaafi’i Ulama, Imams and Teachers for coming generations. Being a minority has inherently led to our community developing a sense of an inferiority complex. Our vision is to develop confident and competent role models, scholars, Imams, leaders and teachers who will once again revive the much-needed confidence to our community.
Our vision is to connect one and all to Allah and His Messenger ﷺ by cultivating minds through power of knowledge, to illuminate our communities with the Prophetic light, to enlighten our states through the illustrious Seerah, and to revive our hearts through the remembrance of the beloved.
We aim to provide quality education in a home-schooling environment. With a focus on small class sizes every child will be ensured quality, safety and progress in their education and well being. We provide facilities for those with special needs such as the visually impaired and hard of hearing. This is a universal, ethical approach which proves beneficial for students, teachers and parents; ultimately with the aim of developing a better society.
What Makes us Different
The Syllabus has been carefully compiled, consulting contemporary scholars, to cover our students’ basic Islamic education including Qur’anic recitation, Aqeedah, Seerah and Fiqh. We recognise that the key to understanding our religion of Islam is the Scholars and their teachings. We provide our community with English translations of Arabic books of the great Scholars. We hope that this will build a bridge between our modern world and the golden days of true Islamic Scholarship thus reviving it for all. We have translated Jamiul Waqf (Qur’aanic recitation rules), Risala al Jamiah & the Safinah an Najaa (Shafi’i Fiqh), as well as produced the acclaimed Shafi’i Madrasah curriculum books ‘Simply Shafi’i Fiqh’ and ‘Simply Aqeedah’ series.
Advanced year students are tasked to teach previous year students in revision sessions to help them revive their own studies, as well learn how teach, explain and simplify various subjects and topics. They are observed by their teachers and given feedback to develop them- selves as prolific teachers
As well as producing students who are well-versed with the sciences of Qur’aanic Recitation, individuals are trained in the art of live Qiraa’ah in the presence of various audiences and scenarios. Students are qualified in the various recitals of the Qur’aan, with a Sanad (unbroken chain) that goes back directly through to Our Beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
Students are meticulously taught the Shar’i rules and guidelines, as well as the practical aspect of the Jumu’ah Khutbah. They are further given the challenge to produce their own Khutbahs on a variety of themes and subjects, which are marked and assessed by qualified scholars. Students are further refined with the task of delivering weekly Khutbah in various Masaajid.
Students are trained from early years on the art of public speaking, and moulded upon the style and etiquette of Our Beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Various topics are handed down with the challenge to produce a sincere, compelling and thought-provoking address. After rigorous feedback and refinement from their teachers, they are finally sent out on public platforms in the final years and further prepared to become powerful and intelligent Da’ees and orators who can handle diverse audiences and challenging topics in a professional, articulate manner.
